A mouse looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package; what food might it contain?

He was aghast to discover that it was a mouse trap!

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning, "There is a mouse trap in the house, there is a mouse trap in the house."

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell you this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me; I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mouse trap in the house."

"I am so very sorry Mr. Mouse," sympathized the pig, "but there is nothing I can do about it but pray; be assured that you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow, who replied, "Like wow, Mr. Mouse, a mouse trap; am I in grave danger, Duh?"

So the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected to face the farmer's mouse trap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a mouse trap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.

In the darkness, she did not see that it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife.

The farmer rushed her to the hospital.

She returned home with a fever. Now everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

His wife's sickness continued so that friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well, in fact, she died, and so many people came for her funeral the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide meat for all of them to eat.

So the next time you hear that someone is facing a problem and think that it does not concern you, remember that when the least of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

Zen Stories : யானையும்...குருடர்களும்..

ஒரு ஊரில் வாழும் மக்கள் அனைவரும் கடவுள் மற்றும் வெவ்வேறு மதங்களைப் பற்றி பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அப்போது அது ஒரு பெரிய விவாதமாக மாறியது. அந்த விவாதம் "கடவுள் பார்க்க எப்படி இருப்பார்?" என்பதைப் பற்றியாகும். அங்கு ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஒவ்வொரு பதிலைக் கூறினர். பின்னர் அதற்கு சரியான பதிலை கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை என்பதால், ஒரு புத்தரை பார்த்து அவரிடம் அதற்கான பதிலை கேட்கச் சென்றனர்.

அங்கு அவரிடம் "கடவுள் பார்க்க எப்படி இருப்பார்? அதற்கு சரியான பதிலை எங்களால் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை" என்று கூறினார்கள். அப்போது புத்தர் அவர்களது சீடர்களிடம் "நான்கு குருடர்கள் மற்றும் ஒரு பெரிய யானையை கொண்டு வாருங்கள்" என்று கூறினார்.

அந்த சீடர்களும் கொண்டு வந்தனர். பின் புத்தர் அந்த நான்கு குருடர்களிடம், "நான் ஒரு பொருளை தருகிறேன், அது என்னவென்று கூறுங்கள்" என்று கூறினார். அவர்களும் சரி என்று கூறினார்.

முதலில் அந்த குருடர்களுள் ஒருவன் யானையின் கால்களை தொட்டுப் பார்த்து, அது "தூண்" போல் இருக்கிறது என்று கூறினான். மற்றொருவன் அதன் வயிற்றைத் தொட்டுப் பார்த்து, அது "சுவர்" போல் இருக்கிறது என்று கூறினான். மூன்றாமவன் அந்த யானையின் காதுகளைத் தொட்டுப் பார்த்து, "துணி" போல் இருக்கிறது என்று சொன்னான். அடுத்தவன் அதன் வாலைத் தொட்டுப் பார்த்து, "கயிறு" போல் உள்ளது என்றான்.

பின்னர் புத்தர் மக்களிடம் "இந்த குருடர்கள் யானையை தொட்டுப் பார்த்து, அவர்கள் உணர்ந்ததை வெவ்வேறு மாதிரி கூறினார்கள். இவற்றில் எது சரி?" என்று கேட்டு, அதேப்போல் தான் கடவுளும் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு மாதிரி என்று கூறி உள்ளே சென்று விட்டார்.

அரசன் ஒருவன் சகுனங்களில் ஆழ்ந்த நம்பிக்கை உடையவன். அரண்மணை சோதிடர் இந்த நம்பிக்கை மேல் குளிர் காய்ந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். ஒரு நாள் இப்படித்தான் 'அரசே, அதிகாலை எழுந்தவுடன் இரண்டு காக்கைகளை ஒன்றாகப் பார்த்தால் நாள் சிறக்கும்' என்று நம்பிக்கை ஊட்டினார்.

மன்னன் சேவகனை அழைத்தான். காலையில் எங்காவது இரண்டு காக்கைகள் தென்பட்டால் உடனே தனக்குத் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்.

அதன் பின் தினமும் பொழுது விடியும் முன்பே சேவகன் தெருவில் அலையத் தொடங்கி விடுவான்.

ஒரு நாள் அரண்மனக்குப் பக்கத்துத் தெருவில் இரண்டு காக்கைகள் ஒன்றாக அமர்ந்திருப்பதைக் கண்டான். "அடடா! நல்ல சகுனம், இன்று மன்னர் நமக்கு நிச்சயம் பதவி உயர்வு கொடுப்பார் என்று மகிழ்ச்சி மிகுதியுடன் மூச்சிரைக்க ஓடி வந்து மன்னரிடம் விபரம் சொன்னான்.

இதைக் கேட்டு துள்ளி எழுந்த மன்னன் சேவகனுடன் அந்த இடத்திற்கு ஓடினான். அதற்குள் ஒரு காக்காய் 'வாக்கிங்' போய் விட்டது.

மன்னனுக்கு மூக்கின் மேல் கோபம் வந்து விட்டது. தளபதியை அழைத்து 'இந்தப் பொறுப்பற்ற சேவகனுக்குப் பத்து கசையடி கொடு' என்று உத்தரவிட்டான்.

சேவகன் சிரிக்க ஆரம்பித்து விட்டான். 'இடுக்கண் வருங்கால் நகுக' என்று படித்துப் புரிந்து வைத்திருந்தவன் போலும். மன்னனுக்கு ஆத்திரம் இன்னமும் அதிகமானது. 'நீ சிரித்ததற்கு சரியான காரணம் சொல்லாவிட்டால் இன்னமும் பத்து கசையடி' என்று உறுமினான்.

சேவகன் சொன்னான். 'மகா மன்னரே. இன்று நான் மட்டும்தான் அதிகாலையில் இரட்டைக் காக்கைகளைப் பார்த்தேன். கை மேல் பலன் கிடைத்து விட்டது அல்லவா?' என்றான்.

மன்னருக்கு சுருக்கென்று ஏதோ உரைத்தது. சோதிடர் கூட 'எஸ்கேஏஏஏஏ..ப்' ஆகிவிட்டார் என்று கேள்வி!!!

கிணற்றைத்தானே விற்றேன்

கிணற்றைத்தானே விற்றேன்

(இது ஒரு பெர்ஷிய குட்டிக் கதை)

ஒருவன் தனது கிணற்றை ஒரு விவசாயிக்கு விற்றான்.

வாங்கிய விவசாயி அடுத்த நாள் கிணற்றிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் எடுக்க ஆவலுடன் கிணற்றுக்கு வந்தான்.

அப்போது விற்றவன் அங்கே நின்று கொண்டிருந்தான். விவசாயியை தண்ணீர் எடுக்க விடாமல் தடுத்தான்.

விவசாயிக்குக் கோபம் வந்தது. "எனக்குக் கிணற்றை விற்று விட்டு அதிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் எடுக்க விடாமல் செய்கிறாயே?" என்று விற்றவனை கோபத்துடன் கேட்டான்.

விற்றவன் "ஐயா! உமக்கு நான் கிணற்றை மட்டும்தான் விற்றேன். அதிலிருக்கும் தண்ணீரை அல்லவே!!" என்று தர்க்கம் செய்தான்.

விவசாயி குழப்பத்துடனும் கோபத்துடனும் காஜியிடம் (நீதிபதியிடம்) சென்று முறையிட்டான்.

நீதிபதி இருவரையும் அழைத்து இருவர் பக்கத்து நியாயத்தையும் விசாரித்தார். பின்னர் கிணற்றை விற்றவனிடம் "நீ கிணற்றை விற்றுவிட்ட படியால் அது உன்னுடையதல்ல. அதில் உனது தண்ணீரை இன்னமும் வைத்திருப்பது தவறு. உனக்கு அதில்தான் தண்ணீரை சேமித்து வைக்க வேண்டுமென்றால் விவசாயிக்கு அதற்கான வாடகையை தினமும் கொடுத்து விடு. இல்லையென்றால் கிணற்றிலிருந்து உனது தண்ணீரை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு உடனே வெளியேறு" என்று தீர்ப்புக் கூறினார்.

விற்றவன் தலையைக் குனிந்து கொண்டே, தனது தவற்றுக்கு மன்னிப்புக் கோரி விட்டு, விவசாயியை கிணற்றின் முழுப் பலனையும் அனுபவிக்கச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, அங்கிருந்து சென்று விட்டான்.

ஒரு முன்கோபக்காரப் பையன் இருந்தான். முணுக்கென்றால் அவனுக்குக் கோபம் வரும்.

கோபம் வந்தால் தலைகால் தெரியாமல் வாய்க்கு வந்த படி வயது வரம்பில்லாமல் எல்லோரையும் பேசி விடுவான். பின்னர் அவர்களிடம் வருத்தப் படுவான்.

நாளடைவில் அவனை சுற்று வட்டாரத்தில் பலருக்கு இதனாலேயே பிடிக்காமல் போனது. அவனைத் தவிர்க்க ஆரம்பித்தார்கள். பையனுக்குத் தன்னைத் திருத்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று தோன்றினாலும் எப்படி என்றுதான் தெரியவில்லை.

அவனுடைய அப்பா பொறுத்துப் பொறுத்து பார்த்து விட்டு ஒரு நாள் அவனிடம் ஒரு வாளி நிறைய ஆணிகளையும் ஒரு சுத்தியலையும் கொடுத்தார்.

ஒவ்வொரு முறை ஆத்திரப் படும் போதும் சம்பந்தப் பட்டவர்களைத் திட்டுவதைத் தவிர்த்து விட்டு வீட்டுக்குப் பின்னால் உள்ள மர வேலியில் ஒரு ஆணியை ஆத்திரம் தீரும் வரை அறைந்து ஏற்றி விடும் படி அறிவுரைத்தார்.

முதல் நாள் வேலியில் சுமார் 50 ஆணிகளை அறைந்து ஏற்றினான். நாட்கள் செல்லச் செல்ல அவனைக் கோபமூட்டுபவர்கள் முன் வன்மையாகப் பேசுவதைக் கட்டுப் படுத்தக் கற்றுக் கொண்டான். கோபம் வந்தால்தான் உடனே ஆணி அடிக்கப் போக வேண்டுமே!

நாளடைவில் வாளியையும் சுத்தியலையும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு வேலிப் பக்கம் போகுமுன் கோபவெறி குறைந்து போய், வேலியில் ஆணி அறைவது குறையத் தொடங்கியது. சில நாட்களில் வேலியில் ஆணி அடிக்க வேண்டிய தேவையே அவனுக்கு இருக்கவில்லை.

அப்பாவிடம் போய் விபரத்தைச் சொன்னான். அவர் உள்ளுக்குள் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தாலும் அதைக் காட்டிக் கொள்ளாமல் அவனிடம் ஒரு ஆணி பிடுங்கும் கருவியைக் கொடுத்து வேலியில் அவன் அடித்த ஆணிகளை ஒவ்வொன்றாகப் பிடுங்கச் சொன்னார். அனைத்தையும் பிடுங்க் அவனுக்கு முழுதாக ஒரு நாள் பிடித்தது.

எல்லா ஆணியையும் பிடுங்கிய பிறகு அப்பாவும் மகனும் வேலியை பார்க்கப் போனார்கள். அப்பா வேலியில் ஆணிகளைப் பிடுங்கிய இடத்தில் இருந்த வடுக்களை மகனுக்குக் காட்டி "கோபம் வந்தால் அறிவிழந்து சொல்லும் சுடுசொல்லும் இந்த ஆணியைப் போலத்தான். ஆணியைப் பிடுங்குவது போல் நீ பேசியதற்கு மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டாலும், அந்த சொல் தைத்த இடத்தில் உள்ள வடு இந்த ஆணி ஏற்படுத்திய வடுவைப் போலவே மறைவது மிகக் கடினம்" என்று அவனுக்கு எடுத்துக் கூறினார்.

மகனும் கருத்தை நன்றாக உணர்ந்து திருந்தி ஊர் போற்றும் வகையில் வளர்ந்து வாழ்க்கையில் வெற்றிகள் பல பெற்றான்.

"Why We Shout In Anger"

A Hindu saint who was visiting river Ganges to take bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples smiled and asked.

'Why do people shout in anger shout at each other?'

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout.'

'But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner.' asked the saint

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples.
Finally the saint explained, .

'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.

What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small...'

The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

He looked at his disciples and said.

'So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.'
